Abstract:
»Objetive: To describe the epidemiological profile of sexual violence against women in Maranhão from 2014 to 2023. Method: Descriptive, quantitative epidemiological study using data extracted from the Department of Informatics of Brazil’s Unified Health System (DATASUS). Women of all age groups with notifications of sexual violence in the period were included. Results: 5,691 cases of sexual violence were recorded among women. Victims were predominantly adolescents aged 10–14 years (41.63%) and mixed-race (parda) (74.77%); rape was the most frequent type (70.68%) and the home was the main setting (69.57%). Perpetrators were mainly adults (37.83%), with friends/acquaintances standing out (24.36%). Conclusion: Continuous training of health teams is recommended, along with encouragement of case notification and completeness of records, and the implementation of intersectoral public policies aimed at prevention, protection, and interruption of the cycle of violence.«
